Terms of service
OpenSoft (opensoft.tools) is run by GridBits. These terms cover using the site, your account if you make one, and our MCP server and data for AI agents. By using OpenSoft you agree to them. Last updated 9 October 2026.
The short version
- OpenSoft is free to browse. Its scores, license verdicts and savings figures are information to help you decide, not advice or a guarantee.
- Check a project and its license yourself before your business depends on it.
- A deployment quote request is not an order. Paid work only starts under a separate written agreement.
- Don't misuse the site, accounts or the MCP server.
What OpenSoft is, and isn't
OpenSoft lists open source alternatives to paid software and scores whether each one is safe to depend on. The scores and figures come from public data and our own methods, explained on how the health score works and how contributor points work.
- Health scores are calculated from GitHub data at the date shown on each page. A project can change after that.
- License verdicts are our reading of a project's license, not legal advice. Licenses change, and a project can include parts under other licenses.
- Savings proposals are estimates from list prices and our hosting prices. Your actual prices, contracts and costs will differ (how we estimate).
- Prices and features of other products are as published by their vendors when we checked, and may have changed since.
We work to keep everything accurate, but we don't promise it is complete, current or free of errors. Decide for yourself, with your own advisers where it matters.
Savings estimates
The savings proposal on each project page compares what a team pays for a product today with what OpenSoft charges to host the open source alternative. Read its figures with these limits:
- List prices. The product's price is its vendor's published list price for the plan named on the page, at the date shown as "checked". It may have changed since. Hover over that line on a project page to see the plan and any notes on how the vendor prices it. Discounts, annual contracts, taxes and negotiated prices are not included, so your own bill may be lower or higher.
- US dollars. All amounts are in US dollars, before tax.
- Our hosting price is the monthly price of the flat-rate plan for the project's size and your team, with the limits listed on the page (users, storage). It is an estimate until you sign up for the plan.
- Not included: paid editions or features of the open source project (see "Enterprise features" on its page), moving your data from your current tool, and compliance work. These are quoted separately as bespoke work.
- Savings over time assume today's prices stay the same for three years.
Your account
- You can sign in with Google, GitHub or an email address. Give us accurate details and keep your sign-in secure.
- An account is for one person. You're responsible for what happens under it.
- You can delete your account at any time by emailing [email protected]. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and why.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
Using the site fairly
Don't:
- break the law, or use OpenSoft to harm others;
- try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, or test our security without our permission;
- overload the site, the MCP server or our APIs, or get around their limits;
- send spam or false information through our forms;
- copy the directory wholesale to publish a competing directory.
AI agents, the MCP server and our data
The OpenSoft MCP server and the catalog it uses are offered free, without a key, so AI assistants and tools can answer questions about open source alternatives. When an answer uses OpenSoft data, link to the relevant opensoft.tools page. We may change, limit or stop the MCP server at any time.
Hosting requests, quotes and bespoke work
"Deploy" and "Get a fixed quote" ask us to contact you about hosting an open source project for you, or doing bespoke work such as moving your data. Neither is an order. Prices shown on the site are estimates until we agree them with you, and any paid hosting or work is covered by a separate written agreement, whose terms apply.
Contributor pages
Contributor leaderboards and pages are built from public GitHub activity on the projects we list. If you'd rather not be listed, email us from the address on your GitHub account and we'll remove you at our next update (how points work).
Other people's products and sites
Product names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners. Listing a product or project doesn't mean we're affiliated with it or that it endorses OpenSoft. Links to other sites are for your convenience: we're not responsible for their content, and their own terms apply there.
Our content
The site's text, scores, methods and design belong to GridBits. You may link to OpenSoft and quote short parts of it with a link back. Open source projects' own code, names and documentation remain under their own licenses.
Liability
OpenSoft is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, GridBits isn't liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions you make based on information on the site, including choosing, deploying or dropping any software. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Changes
We may update these terms as OpenSoft changes. We'll change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell signed-in users by email or on the site before it takes effect. Using OpenSoft after that means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and its courts handle any dispute about them.
